Anyone tried this torrified Purpleheart stuff for fretboards? StewMac’s description makes it sound pretty good.

Is this the same as LMI was selling? I have an instrument nearing completion using one from lmi and it seems pretty nice.

I bought 3 dozen sets (bridge, FB and head-plate) from Lmii when they were closing shop. It’s the best ebony substitute I’ve tried. Weight wise it lands in between ebony and rosewood and is dark black all the way through.

Purpleheart works great for even back and sides. The reason, I think, that you don't see it much is the very high silica content. It's murder on your tools. I think that's also the case with Koa. Both of these woods dull your edge tools and bandsaw blades in short order. In the first class I took on making guitars (classicals) back in the early 1970s, one student could not find BRW at the local lumber yard, so he got Purpleheart. It made a very nice guitar

Anyone found a source for bridge blanks of royal blackwood? StewMac and sometimes Allied have fretboards but I cannot find bridge blanks.
